Project Title
Cultural Crossroads: Navigating Cognitive Dissonance Abroad - Impact on the Mental Health and Academic Experience of Pakistani Students Studying Overseas
Description
The study aims to address the complex interactions between cognitive dissonance and identity negotiation of 25 Pakistani students pursuing their degree abroad in various countries in the West, including the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, and regions of Europe. It discusses how their cultural and religious beliefs influence their lives in the West. The study employs mixed methods to explore the obstacles and experiences these students have when studying in foreign academic settings and dealing with competing cultural and religious norms. It aims to disentangle the nuances of cognitive dissonance and cultural adaptation and their effects on mental health, educational experiences, and general well-being. The study intends to contribute to a greater understanding of the complex factors driving the acculturation process and the difficulties involved in negotiating conflicting values in international educational settings by examining the narratives and experiences of these Pakistani students.
